James A. Meger couldn’t remember a time in his life that he didn’t want to be an artist. His rural upbringing and his love of nature were the inspirations for his paintings and he often dreamed of combining these loves with a career. After completing his B.F.A., James served as a combat officer in Vietnam for 14 months. Eventually, he ended up teaching back in Minnesota, but he still dreamed of painting. With a lot of outside encouragement, he gave up teaching and six weeks later won the Minnesota State Duck Stamp Competition for 1980. His career took off from that point garnering numerous awards including over 15 Best of Show and Popular Choice awards at major national shows around the country. James died of cancer on August 25, 2011 and is survived by his wife, Laurene; and daughter, Elise.

I am nearly finished with Deer Pair and so far it had been one of my absolute favorites to work on! The colors and contrasts are gorgeous. The artist's work is absolutely stunning and I look forward to purchasing more of his work in the future. This canvas also came with a cute coverminder and washi tape in the kit, (along with the rest of what normally is included in their kits).

This picture is beautiful when finished! But a majority of the brown drills were misshapen - either a long rectangle diamond shape or had crooked sides so they were thrown away. I was making this as a gift for someone so didn’t even have time to ask DAC for new drills or wait for them to arrive. I spent a lot of time sorting through 3 or 4 different browns to get rid of all the trash drills. All of the other colors were fine.
