Sensing that this product in conjunction with their new refillable pen could be a game changer, I decided from the outset to do an experiment...I wanted to see how far the 'initial loading' of the pen tip would be effective on drill placing.
Well, I'm very excited to report that I am exactly halfway through a 31" x 22" canvas, that's 28,886 drills placed with the single tip! And it's still placing superbly without ever having to twist the tip for more putty!
This is truly astounding, and something that hasn't applied to other putties I have used. Additionally, the plastic tip of the pen prevents any damage to drills, as can happen with brass tips. Another thing I've noticed is that as you get close to picking up a drill from the tray, the tip 'lifts' the drill to itself. I expect this is due to differing static charges of the two, and is really a bonus effect!
Folks who have had any difficulty switching to the new pen, my advice is...
Keep the putty in the tip of the pen looking slightly 'concave'. ie don't have any putty extending out from the tip (or attached to the side of the tip)...it is a 'sweet spot' that is required for the tip to work perfectly.
Same thing applies when using the multi-placer tips.
