About the artist

Hiro Tanikawa

Born in Yokohama, Japan in 1947, Hiro Tanikawa longed to be a cartoon artist. He graduated from Tokyo Design College in comics and animation graphics and soon saw his artwork published by several boy’s magazines in Japan. At this point, Hiro decided to change direction and pursue fine art and commercial illustration. Since then, Mr. Tanikawa’s artworks have been licensed to children books, jigsaw puzzles, stationery and calendars in Japan and worldwide. He currently teaches art at the Nagaoka Institute of Design.

The Sailing Boat With Sails

Just received this the other day and opened the package and checked out canvas and drills. When I first looked at this on line, I thought, not something that I would usually do, but thought it was intriguing. This will be fun one to do, great detail and the colors are so pretty. Now…to decide which one to do after I finish David McLean’s Mystery painting.

I hope there'll be more from this artist!

I wanted this as soon as I saw it unboxed by another creator. Looks just like the fishing docks here in Massachusetts. The addition of the pets waiting for the boats is so charming. I think I could float on the puffy clouds in the sky. The artist Hiro Tanikawa is new to me. I want more!

How to use

This meditative craft involves placing hundreds of sparkling resin rhinestones, one-by-one, on an adhesive color-coded canvas to create a vivid, shimmering work of art.

Step 1

Dip the tip of the applicator tool into the strip of wax

Step 2

Pick up each diamond by pressing the applicator to the diamond’s rounded, faceted side

Step 3

Apply each diamond to the adhesive canvas template, placing it based on the color-coded chart
