James A. Meger couldn’t remember a time in his life that he didn’t want to be an artist. His rural upbringing and his love of nature were the inspirations for his paintings and he often dreamed of combining these loves with a career. After completing his B.F.A., James served as a combat officer in Vietnam for 14 months. Eventually, he ended up teaching back in Minnesota, but he still dreamed of painting. With a lot of outside encouragement, he gave up teaching and six weeks later won the Minnesota State Duck Stamp Competition for 1980. His career took off from that point garnering numerous awards including over 15 Best of Show and Popular Choice awards at major national shows around the country. James died of cancer on August 25, 2011 and is survived by his wife, Laurene; and daughter, Elise.

I ordered this diamond painting for my son since he absolutely loves dogs and fishing, and it turned out even better than I hoped! The artwork was beautiful and really captured both things he loves. It did take me a little longer to finish than expected, but it was totally worth it. The final piece looks amazing, and he was so excited when he saw it. Definitely a fun and meaningful project—I’d recommend it to anyone looking for something special!

My first big square diamond picture, and I'm loving it. I've worked from the bottom up, so as it comes to life, I'm always a little surprised. I didn't think I would be good at squares, but now I don't want to go back to round. Please note the size (I didn't) as it's very large. I got this for my son, who has hunting labs and loves to fish. I was worried that I wouldn't have it done in time for Christmas, but it's going pretty fast as I learn to multi-place. This is my first DAC, and I love how the cover is scored, allowing me to pull back one section at a time.
