A self-taught artist, Bonnie spent the first 30 years of her life on her family’s horse farm in upstate NY. If she wasn’t riding horses, she was sketching them. Although the farm ceased operation in 2000, she continues to be inspired by her life there and by the mountains, valleys and villages that surround it. In 2007 she designed an ornament for the Blue Room Christmas Tree in the White House. Bonnie and her husband Scott still live next door to her family’s farm with their dog Marley and cats, Mitty and Scooter.

The contrast between the deeply falling snow illuminated by moonlight and the people and animals traveling along the snowy road was truly striking. The shading of the smoke rising from the chimneys is beautifully done, and my favorite detail is the parent and baby deer peeking in to observe the town scene.

I loved doing this canvas. It was a big enough project that I could do a square or two a day, usually with coffee in the morning and it took me about 2 months to get through.

This was my first large square and it was a lot of fun to do. The picture I took does not do it justice...the glittering lights through the windows do not show in the photo. The buildings, characters, critters and the falling snow make this a perfect holiday decoration that I look forward to displaying every year.
